MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Faulkner University has received two substantial grants totaling $4.2 million, the Predominantly Black Institution Competitive Grant and the Predominantly Black Institution Formula Grant.
In the fall of 2021, Dr. Kimberly Cunningham, the then-director of the Center for Academic Excellence, opened an email from the Department of Education that she had to reread several times to make sure it was real. She learned that Baptist Health Sciences University earned a $4.25 million grant from the Department of Education under the Predominantly Black Institutions (PBI) Competitive Grant Program. This is the largest grant in Baptist University’s history.
The DHSI Program last held a competition in 2020. As a result of that competition, 156 grant awards were made throughout 2020 and 2021 to eligible institutions. DHSI grants can be awarded for a maximum of five years and a total of $3 million per institution.
